Here's what I see on my best days

...
the heavy, anchored
heels of time, to
which focus draws closer
and closer like
a shrinking ripple
over the clearest of waters.

My five submissions to the Peace Corps Costa Rica 50th Anniversary Photo Contest:
Por el Porton

Dia Deportivo
First graders participating in the school's Sports Day

El Crisol
Kindergarteners posing outside the cafeteria

Dia del Negro
Dia del Negro parade in Limon: While teaching a summer English class at the Limon public library, I was stopped by a student's mother. She expressed her concern for the lack of interest among Limon youth in learning the language of their ancestors.  Patois (English Creole) is as resplendent as Limonense food and clothing, its preservation a worthy cause.  Never is that more apparent than during the Dia del Negro celebration. (finalist)

El fabricador de quesos
Cheesemaker: A few moments with this man was enough to demystify a process that I always believed to be a complex traverse through miles, machinery, and endless regulations.  In his hands and eyes was an aged simplicity that he passed on to his product.  It wouldn’t be the last time I bore witness to the tico’s talent for keeping life simple—perhaps one of the most important keys to their enduring happiness. (2nd place!)

...and the winner by fellow CYF volunteer Allen Sin:
